Frequent Asked Questions

What is the difference between a POP account and an alias?

A POP account has to be sent FROM a mail client program like Outlook, Outlook Express or Eudora.  The advantage to this is that you can send FROM your domain address (i.e., joe@mycompany.com) rather than advertising for your ISP by sending something like someone@aol.com, which a lot of people believe is unprofessional.  It is better for marketing yourself to have your domain listed on replies.  You can still check POP mail on web-based email accounts like Yahoo and Hotmail/MSN, but the replies from there would of course be from those accounts.

Aliases, which you can have as many as you like of, are simply "forwards" of email to another account.  For example, you may want info@yourcompany.com to go to martha@aol.com.

What is Internic or Network Solutions or Verisign?

These are the same company (now).  Netsol.com It is the quasi-governmental organization that manages all of the domain names in the world.  They are located in Virginia and dealing with them is necessary regardless of who your host is now, in the past or in the future.
